How do I order pet medication online?

Pet Chemist offers an online pharmacy service to make collecting prescriptions easier (and cheaper) than ever.

We connect you with Australian registered pharmacists who can provide the medication your pet needs, while saving you up to 50% on cost. All you need to get started is a valid prescription from your vet; here’s how it works:

  1. Obtain: Secure a valid prescription from your vet.
  2. Order: Shop for the selected medication and upload your prescription.
  3. Original: Send the original (pen-signed) prescription to our PO Box.

Need help finding what you’re looking for?

We can help you find the correct medication and order it online; all you have to do is provide us with a valid prescription.

Once you complete your order, we will prompt you to upload a copy of the prescription and ask for a couple of additional details. For real-time assistance, use our live chat feature.

Can’t find the right product?

Pet Chemist offers a wide range of medication to treat everything from dermatitis to gastrointestinal upset. Still, if you can’t find the medication you are looking for, contact us and we will try our best to source it for you at an affordable cost.

What if I don’t have a prescription?

While most Australian vets are willing to write prescriptions for necessary medications, some may not. If your vet is one of the few to refuse, consider consulting another local vet.

Pet Chemist cannot dispense any prescription medication to you without a written prescription from a qualified vet.

Who can write the pet prescription?

We require a prescription from an Australian registered vet. In accordance with the Australian Veterinary Association and state guidelines, Pet Chemist cannot take prescriptions from online-only veterinary businesses.

Can my vet email the prescription to me?

You must provide Pet Chemist with the original pen-signed prescription. You can upload a copy of an emailed prescription, but you must request that your vet mail the original to us.

Where do I send the prescription?

The physical prescription should be sent to the following PO Box:

PO Box 999

How to order pet medication online through Pet Chemist

How do I know the quality of the medication?

We understand how important it is to trust the quality of medications you are giving to your pets. That’s why every prescription medication provided by Pet Chemist is carefully sourced from registered pharmacists and trusted Australian veterinary wholesalers, so you can rest assured that our procedures ensure the highest standards.

Pet Chemist Pharmacy supplies the medication, which is dispensed by Australian-registered pharmacists in accordance with national and state legislation.

Why can’t I see what I’m ordering?

We understand why you might be confused that we don’t display the packaging images on our website, but Australian legislation prohibits advertising prescription drugs to consumers so we can’t display images of our prescription medications.

However, we are happy to answer any questions you have about a specific medication. Please get in touch with us if you require any further information about the pet medication online.

How do repeat prescriptions work?

If you have valid repeats on your original prescriptions, you can select the correct medication and place an order.

However, if you require a new written prescription, follow the “obtain, order, and original” steps, ensuring you send the pen-signed copy to our PO Box.

Prescriptions are generally valid for 12 months (though your vet can specify an earlier expiry, so make sure you check!) or until repeats run out.

If your prescription does not have repeats, you’ll need a new prescription for each order. Ongoing prescriptions are not permitted and we can only provide the quantity authorised by your vet.
